Es ist endlich wieder soweit! Sommer-Urlaubszeit. Die Kita hat geschlossen und daher heißt es für uns ab in in den Urlaub. Da August nun wirklich nicht die beste Reisezeit für Menschen mit nicht schulpflichtigen Kindern ist, haben wir uns entschieden ins Allgäu in die Ferienwohnung meiner Eltern zu gehen.

Finally the time has come for summer holidays! The care centre for children is closed and therefore it’s time for another holiday. As august isn’t the best time to travel with children below schoolage, we decided to go in my parents‘ holiday accommodation in the Allgäu region.

Die Vorfreude ist groß aber ich muss wirklich sagen, ich würde jemanden dafür bezahlen, der für uns packt! In der Regel ist es so, dass mein Mann just vor dem Urlaub noch irgendeine Abgabe hat. Das ist so regelmäßig, dass ich mich frage, ob er es absichtlich so legt…nur um die Packerei zu umgehen. Nun ja, daher bin ich meistens diejenige, die für 4 Personen packen darf…und dabei habe ich in den letzten 1,5 Jahren, seitdem wir zu viert sind, festgesellt, dass es Sinn macht einen kompletten Tag fürs Packen einzuplanen…Gut durchdacht…aber wenn die 2 Kinder daheim sind keine leichte Aufgabe. Zwar helfen beide wahnsinnig gerne. Aber meistens sieht die Hilfe so aus, dass alles was ich gerade fein säuberlich eingepackt habe von dem einen wieder ausgepackt und von dem anderen irgendwo hingebracht wird. Ok, aber was solls nach viel Schweiß sind die Koffer gepackt und im Auto verstaut und ab geht’s ins wunderschöne Allgäu, Ziel: Bad Hindelang!

Anticipation is great, but I really have to admit, that I would pay for someone packing aur suitcases! Generally my husband has a due date just right before our travelling. This is such regulary that I asked myself if he does that on purpose…just to get any way around packing! Well, that’s why I am the one packing for four people… und during the last 1,5 years, since we are 4 family-members, I found out that you have to plan with one whole day for packing… Nice thought… but when the children are at home this is not an easy task. Sure, both of them love to help. But most of the time one starts to unpack what I just packed neatly and the other one carries everything through the apartment. Anyway, after lods of sweat, the suitcases are packed and stowed in the car and so we’re ready for our wonderfull destination: Bad Hindelang!

Nachdem wir ja dieses Jahr schon 9 Tage auf Mallorca waren – was auch wirklich toll war-, wage ich die Aussage zu treffen, dass es im Allgäu bei schönem Wetter für Kleinkinder mehr Möglichkeiten gibt als bei einem Strandurlaub. Wandern, Bauernhöfe und Tierparks besichtigen, tolle große Spielplätze besuchen, in die Ostrach die Füsse reinhängen und Steine sammeln, den Mountainbikern am Bikepark zuschauen und und und. Ein paar schöne Ziele möchte ich gerne teilen.

As we already were in Mallorca for 9 days this summer – which was really great too – I dare the statement, that in the Allgäu region there are much more different opportunities with little children than on beach vacation. Hiking, visiting farms and wildlife parks, play on huge playgrounds, dangaling feet in the Ostrach and collecting stones, watching the mountainbikers in the bikepark etc. I would like to share some of our destinations with you.

Wir waren dieses Mal unter anderem in Hinterstein zum Wandern. Dort gibt es die Zipfelsbachfälle… und Wasserfälle sind natürlich für Kinder immer spannend. Wir sind insgesamt nur eine halbe Stunde gelaufen aber für die Kinder war es perfekt. Sie sind sogar das meiste allein gelaufen, obwohl wir für beide je eine Rückentrage dabei hatten. Der Weg ist zwar immer mal wieder steil aber dennoch gut zu Laufen. Auf dem Rückweg kommt man direkt durch eine am Hang gelegene Kuhweide durch. Wir konnten sogar ganz nah an die Kühe ran. Und die Stimmung war märchenhaft.

This time we went hinking in Hinterstein, where you find the Zipfelsbachfälle… and waterfalls are always exciting for kids. We walked for about half an hour, what was great for the kids. Most of the was they actually walked by themselves, although we had a childrens carry for both of them with us. The path was quite steep but still good to walk. On the way back you come right through a cows’ pasture on the hillside. It was such a fairytail atmosphere.

Als weiteres Ausflugsziel hatten wir den großen Alpsee, wo man schwimmen, Tretboot fahren und sogar mit einem Segelschiff fahren kann. Wir waren sowohl Tret- als auch Segelboot fahren. Die Segelboot-Fahrt geht eine Stunde und da auf dem Schiff selbst nichts spannendes passiert war das schon etwas lang. Trotzdem war es für unseren Sohn natürlich eine aufregende Erfahrung. Für ältere Kinder gibt es auch die Pratenschiffahrt, die dann ohen Eltern stattfindet. Was ab einem gewissen Alter – der Kinder und der Eltern – bestimmt allen mal gut tut!

Another excursion we did was the Great Alpsee, where you can go swimming or take a trip in a sailboat or pedalo. We did both, pedalo and sailboat. The sailboat-trip went for around an hour and as on the boat itself nothing happens it was a bit long. Still for our son it was a special and exciting experience. Older children can go on the pirate-boat-trip, without parents. From a certain age onwards – of the children and the parents – it’s probably good for both sides!

Was wir eigentlich jedes Mal machen, wenn wir in Bad Hindelang sind, ist ein Besuch auf dem Gauklerhof. Der Gauklerhof ist ein urgemütlicher reonvierter Bauernhof mit einem ganz idyllischen Biergarten, einem Spielplatz mit Schaukeln und Trampolin, ein paar Gänsen und Schafen und sogar 2 Pfauen (was jetzt wirklich nicht typisch Allgäu ist!). Jeden Sonntag während des Sommers ab 11 Uhr findet dort ein Brunch statt. Allerdings muss man sich dazu bis zum Freitag vorher anmelden. Es lohnt sich total! Die Essensauswahl ist groß und das Essen ist zudem auch noch echt gut, die Kinder haben einen Riesenspaß und wenn man Lust hat kann man auch noch dem dazu gehörigen Hofladen einen kleinen Besuch abstatten. Dort gibt es wunderschöne Deko und Mitbringsel zu kaufen.

What we love to do each time we’re in Bad Hindelang is a visit on the Gauklerhof. The Gauklerhof is a extremely cosy renovated farm house with a idyllic beergarden, a nice playground with swings and a trampoline, a few goose and sheep and even with 2 peacocks (which is not typical at all in the Allgäu!). On Sundays during summertime they organize a brunch at 11 o clock. But you have to sign in for it until the Friday before. It’s definitely worth it! The choice of food is great and the food is really good besides, the children do have al lot of fun and if you are in the mood you can have a look into the Hofladen, a little shop where you can buy beautiful decoration stuff or small gifts.

Zum Abendessen mit Kindern ist der Wiesengrund zu empfehlen. Das Essen ist rustikal und insgesamt völlig in Ordnung, es ist zwar kein kulinarischer Hochgenuß aber der ist mit Kleinkindern eh schwierig zu genießen. Vor allem passt das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis und man sitzt schön und entspannt am Holztisch auf der Wiese mit direktem Blick auf den dazu gehörigen Spielplatz. Die Kinder können sich austoben und die Eltern in Ruhe essen. Einfach toll und sehr entspannt!

For dinner with the kids I recommend the Wiesengrund. The food is rustic-style and all together absolutely ok, it’s not the culinaric highlight but this would be hard to enjoy anyway with little kids. And above all the price-quality ratio is really alright and you sit in a dreamlike atmosphere at wooden tables on the meadow and with a direct view on the playground which belongs to the restaurant. The kids can hop around and the parents can enjoy their meal. It is absolutely cool and relaxed!

Bad Hindelang bzw. das Allgäu im Allgemeinen ist auf alle Fälle mit Kleinkindern aber natürlich auch mit größeren Kindern immer eine Reise wert. Eigentlich egal zu welcher Jahreszeit. Wir hatten dieses Mal wirklich unglaubliches Glück mit dem Wetter aber auch wenn es im Sommer regnet gibt es jede Menge Programm und tolle Ausflugsziele. Da fällt mir nur ein Wort zu ein: Perfekt!

Bad Hindelang or better the Allgäu region in general is definitely beautifull with little or also big kids. It doesn’t matter during which season. This time we had such luck with the weather but also when it’s raining in summer there is a lot to do and so many different excursion possibilities. Only one word: Perfect!
